Traction motors, powered by traction converters, are used to drive locomotives. For closed-loop operation of the traction converter, it is crucial to have accurate information on the actual RPM achieved by the traction motor. Hall effect sensors provide real-time data on the traction motor’s RPM and direction of travel. One sensor is fitted on each traction motor to enable precise speed control and manage wheel slip/slide conditions.
