In AC locomotives with DC propulsion, the “On Load Tap Changer” (OLTC) is a critical component for controlling tractive effort. The OLTC is connected to the 25 kV side of the traction transformer and provides traction power in 32 steps, enabling precise control of the locomotive’s operation.
