In an electric locomotive, the Braking Excitation AC Contactor (C145) is used to excite the field winding of the traction motors during rheostatic braking. During this process, the field windings of all six traction motors are connected in a series. Each locomotive is equipped with one Braking Excitation AC Contactor to facilitate this operation.
